This week, September 21-25 2020 is Falls Prevention Awareness Week. Falls are the leading cause of injury deaths, unintentional injuries, and trauma admissions among older adults. However, falls are avoidable if proper safety measures are in place. This can include:

  • Keeping paths and hallways clear of objects
  • Install lights in hallways or stairways, with switches at both ends of a hallway
  • Add supports in bathrooms, where surfaces can get slippery
  • When going outside, wear sturdy shoes, especially in the rain
  • Watch out for any uneven surfaces, indoors and outdoors
